A dark ale with well balanced bittering. Spicy, full bodied and flavoursome with a deep fruit aroma. Many of the festive traditions we now associate with Christmas have their roots in the affluence of the Victorian era. As a well-connected family man, it’s hard to imagine Isambard Kingdom Brunel stinting on the seasonal good cheer. Intriguingly Brunel and his friend and rival Robert Stephenson (designer of the Rocket steam locomotive) spent their last Christmas together. Far from the dark, chilly nights of England, the pair tucked into their 1858 Christmas dinner in Cairo.
